Challenge At Hand
The company wanted to recruit the best young talent as Management Trainees, in a labour market where many Engineering graduates enter the workforce, but only a handful would fulfil the requirements of a future manager. Qualities like learning agility, being self directed and persistent, collaborative, and having critical and strategic thinking skills were all deemed highly desirable.
The Work We Did
We developed assessment criteria based on the company’s Leadership Framework, and created an engaging 2 -day Assessment Centre for 40 candidates, complete with various group and solo activities. The Assessment Centre was conducted using in-house assessors and OVC consultants. Over 20 senior executives at the company were trained in robust evaluation techniques, and they gained a much better understanding of the Leadership Framework as a result.
The company identified and recruited thirteen of the most suitable candidates out of more than five hundred applicants who completed the HA. Each of these hires were also provided with an Individual Development Plan. The process garnered enough buy-in from the business that the decision was made to review the process for recruiting management trainees and use the Assessment Centre process in the region.
